It has been pure joy to participate in Joni & Friends Family Retreats for several years now and we are already gearing up for the 2016 Family Retreat at Wonder Valley near Sanger, CA. This is one week of the year where families affected by disabilities get a break from life and for many – their one time of vacation all year. Campers stay with their Short-Term Missionary “buddies” all week so parents don’t have to worry 24/7 and everyone is encouraged in the Word of God like a week-long Vacation Bible School with Bible-based programs for all ages preschool through adult. If you’re a family that is affected by disability, consider coming to be refreshed and if you have a compassionate heart that is willing to serve, consider becoming a Short-Term Missionary for the week – right here in California.

In their own words: “The road to Wonder Valley Ranch winds through flower-laced meadows and the rugged hills near Kings Canyon National Park — with all the flavor of a western ranch, it’s a retreat like none other, tucked up against the western edge of the Sierra Mountains. Come prepared to enjoy everything from kayaking and zip-lining, to the best barbecue this side of Fresno, California. The special needs of every family affected by disability are thoughtfully incorporated into a truly refreshing and inspirational Family Retreat. Hosted by Joni and Friends Central California, this five day retreat is located in the rolling green foothills of Sanger, California. Your family will enjoy Wonder Valley’s accessible campus and countless amenities.”

“At both U.S. and International Family Retreats, special-needs families receive encouragement and care in the comfort of a safe and accessible family camp environment. They enjoy fun and fully-accessible, age-appropriate activities, along with meaningful conversations with families who understand the challenges of life with disability. The success of a Family Retreat depends not only on the leadership and programming, but on the distinctly Christian community which is carefully nurtured in order for families to feel blessed and supported. For this reason, Joni and Friends reserves the right to accept families and/or assign accommodations based on our ability to meet the needs of all families in a safe and accepting Christian environment. Thank you for your understanding in helping us preserve the community of Family Retreat, and for helping to make retreat a positive and encouraging experience for everyone involved.”
