Shop Till You Drop | Wedding Top 048 | Evermoore Films | A wedding dress can take an average of 3 to 6 months to sew and alter. If you're planning a short engagement, start shopping early to get the dress back on time.

“Duuuuun, dat, da-dun…” The tune of the wedding march is sung at the top of her lungs as she slowly strides down the hall to the kitchen, wrapped in mother’s flower-printed bed sheets – imagining, of course, that she’s adorned in a drop-dead gorgeous glitter wedding gown. With a train long enough to trip any trailing toddlers, the sweet, oblivious 5-year-old marches around the corner, lost in her dream world. Almost every little girl dream of her future wedding, and one of the first things on her mind is “What am I going to wear?” Years later, when the ring slips on her finger and she suddenly finds herself in the middle of a pile of things to do, the dress is still one of the first things on her mind.

So how long does it take to get a wedding dress? Well…contrary to the groom’s belief that all you have to do is walk in the store, pick a dress off the rack, swipe the card and wah-lah…it just doesn’t work that way. At least not usually…not for a wedding dress. Stores dedicated only to wedding dresses understand. Dresses can take an average of three to six months to create, sew, alter, re-alter, and put the final touches on from the day you walk in the store to the day you walk down the aisle. And that’s just an average! The poofy princess dresses with glitter guns and fairy wings take even longer! If you’re looking at a 4 month engagement or shorter, be sure to look early and decide sooner than later…the last thing you want to do is have your dress still in the shop the week of the wedding.

Dan & Sandra got married in the beautiful land of Ponderosa, California at “Nature’s Cathedral” with snowy pine needles and a cool mountain breeze. Sandra chose a beautiful wedding gown from Enchanted Bridal Boutique, altered by Mary Rita from Sew Elegant Wedding Veils & Alterations. Thrilled beyond her dreams, Sandra confidently walked down the aisle to Dan in the dress of her dreams and had no worries of getting her dress on time – even with a short engagement!
