When giving a wedding speech, time is of the essence. The bride has worked so hard to plan this once-in-a-lifetime day down to every hour and sometimes every 15 minute block. There is so much to do and so little time. Most likely there is a set time planned for the Grand Entrance to the reception, a limited time for dinner, and just a few minutes left for a sparkler exit at the end of the night. While it’s good to stop and enjoy the day, we still need to be respectful of the schedule and the plans and the fact that the day isn’t about us.
So if you’re a maid of honor, best man, or father of the groom or bride, consider wisely what to say, and say it with meaning, with beauty, and with purpose. Be careful not to ramble on and on – prepare ahead. If you’re super close to the bride and/or groom and want to say so much about them and how happy you are for them it’s okay, just be reasonable with how much you say. You can always say more in person privately or on the dance floor. Now, during your wedding toast, is the time to say what you want to say publicly. As a spokesperson for all the guests, offer love and congratulations, advice and humor, and encourage the newlywed couple in their future life together!
Jonathan and April got married at a beautiful private ranch in the California countryside. Happily married for several years now, they are able to enjoy their wedding video again and again as they grow in love for each other every year.
